This king of gunstock wood is a variety of the Persian walnut that grows in Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan and parts of Russia. These trees are very old and huge. They are 200 years and older. Due to age and cold harsh environment, they produce exceptionally fine blanks. Turkish Circassian, English and French walnut are the same species. The only difference is their location and climate. The Turkish walnut has a rich brown color with distinct figure and color patterns. This fine and tight grain wood checkers the best. It can hold up to 32 lines to the inch checkering which makes it the top wood in this respect.
